Many newborn baby has birthmarks. They can be black spot or reddish spot somewhere around they skin. Some parents feel worried about them. They are worried because they don’t know what they are and if they are normal or not, or whether they need to do some special skin care or not. Well lets find out what they are and here are some of the normal birthmarks.
- Stork Marks
Stork Mark is a reddish birthmark mostly found on the baby forehead, between his/her eyes, just upper from his/her eyes, under the nose, and also on the lower part of the neck. This reddish spot can be seen mostly when they baby cry. A stork mark will disappear as the baby grows.
- Mongolian Blue Spot
This birthmark is like a bruise, color bluish rather black mostly found among Asian babies, and it is believe that this spot is an accumulation of pigment cells under the skin. This spot mostly found in newborn baby back, just upper side from the bottom. It doesn’t cause any pain and it will disappear as the newborn grows, at least until the baby is a year old.
- Café au Lait Spots
This birthmark’s color is light brown, it will stay permanently. It will show after the baby born or few days after.
- Milia Spots
This white little lump is mostly found in newborn baby nose. The physicians consider that spot is cause by a disturbance at the fat channel. It will disappear in few weeks. Please just leave it alone, don’t treat it like it was an acne.
- Erythema Toxicum
This reddish and pink color in the middle of the spot is commonly found in newborn babies. It will disappear it self without any special treatment.
- Haemangioma
Well known also as Strawberry Marks. This reddish color mark can grow larger but it will finally disappear in few years. Don’t scratch this mark because it easily bleed. Just press with your finger if it bleed. This mark doesn’t need any special treatment unless it disturb any organs like the eye.
- Laguno
Laguno is a small and soft hair found in the back, shoulder, arms, and the forehead of a newborn baby. A premature baby mostly has this laguno more than the normal baby, but in few weeks time this hair will disappear itself.

For a first time parent newborn everyday care is important. For a newborn the everyday care would be the caring the umbilical cord stump, until it fall itself, bathing a newborn, newborn skin care, keep your newborn clean.
How many times you need to bathe your newborn depends in what climate do you living in. In tropical countries like in Asia, you need to bathe your baby twice a day, or at least once a day. If you have a bathing chair you just need to shower him/her with warm water or use a baby bathing tub that is filled with warm water, give a 2 in 1 bathing soap that can uses as shampoo as well as for bathing. Rub your newborn skin gently, especially in the folded skin. Make sure you use a safe cosmetic for baby. Use the one that is already well known for it high quality products, or you can use organic baby skin care products.
To make your baby comfortable, make sure the room temperature is not cold or hot, just the right temperature so you don’t make your baby sweating. Keep your baby skin dry to avoid any skin rashes, itches, and irritations.
The umbilical cord is a tissue known called of Wharton’s jelly. It’s clear and soft like a jelly when it still fresh but it turn black when it get dried. Caring the umbilical cord stump needs a special attention. To avoid any infections make sure that the umbilical cord stump is clean and dry. After you give your newborn bath, dry the umbilical cord stump, use an alcohol or antiseptic liquid to clean them up. You don’t have to worry about making the baby hurt because the stump doesn’t contain any nerves. As long as your newborn doesn’t show any fever, pus appears at the base of the navel, the navel has a bad smell, and the navel become swollen or red, that mean the drying process in good condition. In about 1-2 weeks the stumps will drop off it self. Don’t try to pull the stumps, let it fall by it self. When the stump already drop off, there may be still little trace of blood in the cord, you don’t have to worry about that just still keep it clean and dry. It will completely dry in few days.

What You Should Know About Newborn Baby Skin Care

A newborn baby usually has a bluish or purple kind of color, but it will turn red, signing that the blood circulation runs well. Some babies born with a white thin layer skin called Vernics, that will go away it self in few days. Some babies also born with wrinkle and scaly skin, it’s ok, you don’t need to put anything like lotion to it, because a new skin will come up in few days.
Taking care of your newborn baby delicate skin is something you have to be careful of. If you choose the wrong cosmetics or wrong way, it would end up hurting your baby.
Basically, a newborn baby doesn’t need any soap, or shampoo for bathing, all s/he needs is clean water and a soft washcloth, because soap and shampoo only will cause irritation skin and dry skin. Baby oil and lotion are not recommended too, because mineral oil will cause the baby skin unable to breathe. But that doesn’t happen to all babies, only those who have sensitive skin.
Those that contained in Baby cosmetics like : mineral oil, fragrance, sodium laurel sulfate, FD&C dyes or pigments, sodium borate or boric acid are chemical toxics that babies don’t need. So, if your baby cosmetics don’t contain any of those toxics, it‘s ok to use it (as long it doesn’t cause irritation like skin rash or itch) or you might consider using organic baby skin care products. For example, instead of using baby lotion, why don’t use natural aloe vera lotion to handle dry skin.
Organic baby skin care products are environmentally friendly, it means made from the nature and doesn’t cause any harm toxics to the nature.
Before choosing an organic baby skin care products, make sure that there isn’t any chemicals added, and the company that made these products is well known for its quality products and its integrity to the consumers.
